In 2010, together with his fellow 18-year-old Muse intern David Murray, Burroughs sought elective office with Burroughs winning, but Murray losing. Burroughs became the youngest elected official in the state of Maryland.

Burroughs worked as a tae-kwon-do junior instructor at the Hillcrest Heights recreational center.
