Edgar Sanabria Arcia was a Venezuela
n lawyer, diplomat, and politician, member of the provisional Government Junta, after the overthrow of Marcos Pérez Jiménez
on 23 January 1958, and interim President of Venezuela in 1959.
, studying at the French Priests school, the San Pablo Institute and the Caracas Grammar school (later re-baptized like Andrés Bello
Grammar school), graduating as bachelor in 1928. After that, Sanabria studied law at the Central University of Venezuela
, where graduates in 1935 with a degree in Political Sciences. Obtains the title of professor in the Pedagogical Institute of Caracas the following year. Between 1936 and 1941, Sanabria would be professor at the Andrés Bello grammar school and the Normal school of Caracas. From 1936 and 1958, occupy the chairs of Civil Law and Law History at the Central University of Venezuela, also served as assistant director of the National Library of Venezuela
from 1936 until 1940. In 1941 was ordered to the General Consulate of Venezuela in New York City, and legal consultant of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and of the ministry of Finance and Development (1942–1943).
Sanabria, was director of the Ministry of Education in 1944, and vocal member of the Council of the Faculty of Law at the Central University of Venezuela
, being also professor of Roman Law at the Andrés Bello Catholic University (1955–1959), as well in the Santa María University (1953–1956), and professor of Law History at the Cooperation School of the Armed Forces.
After the overthrow of Marcos Pérez Jiménez
, was named secretary of the Government Junta, replacing Wolfgang Larrazábal as interim president. During his short time as president, signed the Law of Complementary Tax and the Law of Universities, in which the statute of the university autonomy is recovered. On 13 February 1959, transfer the presidency to the elected candidate at the 1958 elections (Rómulo Betancourt
).
After this, held various posts in the Venezuelan diplomatic corps, being ambassador to the Vatican City
(1959–1963), ambassador in Switzerland (1964–1968), Austria (1968–1970), and finally ambassador ad honorem of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. In recognition of the important intellectual work that developed, in 1940 was selected an individual of number of the Venezuelan Academy of Language, in 1946 of the Academy of Political Sciences and in 1963 of the National Academy of History. Between 1975 to 1987, was married to Cecilia Báez Palacios.
