Eccles Shorrock was born in Clitheroe

. When Eccles Ashton was adopted by his uncle, he removed his last name Ashton and later had a son whom he named Eccles Shorrock. Eccles Shorrock (the Second) was responsible for establishing the India Mill Chimney, which is considered today to be a landmark in Darwen.
