which grow to very large sizes. The average size of these trout are about 1½ pounds and can exceed 10 pounds. It is said that the alkaline waters of the lake contribute to the size of these fish. Eagle Lake was once part of a large lake on the Modoc Plateau millions of years ago. Since these Modoc Lakes are high in alkalinity, the trout have evolved to only be able to live in these lakes.
