. However, e.Sat was the first to throw in the towel and said the South African market was only big enough for two operators. They then later announced that they would instead work as a channel supplier to the already operating Multichoice's DSTV platform. On the 1st of June 2008, the channel took to the airwaves at 19:00 for a special edition of its flagship programme News Night. Over time the channel continued expanding the number of shows, presenters and format to be more appealing to more viewers.

Public Reaction to the Channel

Generally, the immediate reviews of South Africa's 24-hour E.TV News Channel were favorable. The studio renovations done in the Hyde Park, Johannesburg

location were thought of very highly, and most viewers thought the state of the art studio and facilities rivaled those of other leading world news channels.

The news gathering trucks used by the channel also garnered acclaim due to their sophisticated system of robotic cameras and availability of live feeds into the studio.

The presenters were looked upon most favorably by the viewing audience, however, there has been a general complaint of a lack of South African hosts on many of the shows.

The viewing audience has also found there to be a great deal of repetition in the stories broadcast by the channel which may come from a lack of greater international news coverage, with a main focus of the channel being South African news.
