He spent almost his entire career in Benfica, from 1955/56 to 1969/70, were he won the titles of National Champion, in 1956/57, 1959/60, 1960/61, 1962/63, 1963/64, 1964/65, 1966/67, 1967/68 and 1968/69, and the Cup of Portugal, in 1957, 1959, 1962, 1964 and 1969.
He also won the Champions Cup finals in 1961 and 1962, and played and the 1963 and 1965 finals.

National team

He had 18 caps for Portugal National Team, scoring 5 goals, from 8 April 1958, in a 0–1 defeat to Brazil in a friendly match, to 24 June 1965, in a 0–0 tie with Brazil in another friendly match. He played in the 1966 World Cup qualifying matches, but was left out of the squad that participated in the finals. He scored his first international goal against Switzerland in Genébra in 16 May 1959, Portugal had lost the game by 4–3.
