Founded in 1981, Dobson sits on 84 acres (339,936.2 m²) of public land. The school is named after the Dobson family, who moved to the area in 1886 and established a large ranch which includes the land where the school is now located.
The current principal is Matthew Gehrman, who also was a Dobson graduate, teacher, and assistant principal in the past. Rick Fultz, Ray Perkins and Dora Samson comprise the rest of the administration, as the three assistant principals. Paul Walsh, Linda Rottman and Steve Green have been administrative principals at Dobson.
In 2009, President Barack Obama
made a speech at the school announcing a mortgage relief plan.
