The men's 3 metre springboard, also reported as springboard diving, was one of four diving
events on the Diving at the 1988 Summer Olympics
programme. Memorably, Greg Louganis
managed to complete the preliminary round third, after hitting his head on the springboard while performing a reverse 2½ pike, sufferring a concussion, and continued to the finals to win the gold medal.
A historic score was also estabilished by Hong Kong athlete Wong Kin-chung, who jumped right after Louganis' injury, and unnerved by the event did a wrong dive that earned him the first zero score ever in the Olympics.
