Since 1995 the Lady Cougars had 11 straight Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) titles for a total of 12, 11 straight Western Maine titles for a total of 14, and 6 out of 13 State Championships. The Lady Cougars have been gifted with several players to make the 1,000-point club.
For the Boy's soccer homecoming game, it is tradition to run out onto the field wearing orange hunting gear, and to play the game while wearing orange soccer socks. This tradition faded after Dirigo replaced their head coach during the 2010 season.

There are a few ways an athlete can retire his or her jersey at Dirigo High School. The most common is the 1000-point club for basketball. Dirigo has retired several jerseys for the girls' basketball team, and two for the boys' basketball team.
One other jersey has been retired in Dirigo history, that one belonging to a field hockey player, Danielle (Dani) Tompkins. Dani did not have the honor of retiring her jersey for making 1000 goals, she did so by saving 1000 goals. No other goalie in New England has ever saved 1000 goals. This makes our school the first to ever have a goalie with 1000 saves. She has a total of 1169.
Following the 2009 championship football season, yet another sport had a jersey retired. Nic Crutchfield's home jersey is to be hung upon its return from being displayed at the New England Patriots Hall of Fame.

The Cougars lost the Mountain Valley Championship game to a heavily favored Wiscasset team in the final minutes after holding an early lead. The Cougars were eliminated from the playoffs in the quarter finals by Hall Dale High School by a score of 3-1.
