Dilawar Singh Babbar was a serving police officer in the Punjab Police
of India at the time of his becoming a human bomb. He joined Babbar Khalsa International, during his service in the Punjab Police
and volunteered to become a suicide bomber to assassinate Beant Singh, the Chief Minister of Punjab. He assassinated Beant Singh by blowing up his bullet-proof car at 5 p.m. on August 31, 1995 in the Punjab and Haryana Civit Secretariat, Chandigarh. Beant Singh
was made chief minister of Punjab even though more than 90% of voters had boycotted the 1992 state elections.
