Derek Rasmussen

Derek Rasmussen is the former policy advisor for Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated
, the elected body representing the Inuit
of the independent Territory of Nunavut
in the Canadian Arctic.
In this capacity, he advised the Inuit on social, economic and educational policies.
In his "Qallonology, A Pedagogy for the Oppressed," he describes how:
He has lived in Iqaluit, the new capital of Nunavut, since 1991.
Rasmussen is also a peace activist and was a cofounder of the Canadian East Timor Program in the early 1980s.

"I once represented the Baffin Region Chamber of Commerce before a parliamentary committee studying chemicals in the environment. The committee chair asked: 'Why are you the only member demanding tighter restrictions?' Well, other chambers have chemical producers as their members. We have chemicals in our members."
