The city is named after the assassinated Pakistani leader Mir Murad Khan Jamali. Mir Muhammad Murad Jamali was one of the leading political personalities of the Pakistan Muslim League
and was a close ally of Jinnah for the independence of Pakistan and the welfare of Balochistan province along with his cousin Mir Jaffer Khan Jamali. Mir Murad was murdered by unidentified men, when he was on the doorstep of the mosque while coming out from Jumma
(Friday prayers) in Quetta City. The news of the murder led to complete strikes in Sindh and Balochistan.
Mir Muhammad Murad Jamali is followed by his four sons: Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali (ex-food minister), two-terms district nazim and ex-PHF Balochistan president, Mir Aurangzeb Jamali, Mir Israr Jamali, and Mir Bilal Jamali.
Israr jamali is working in OPF in the federal capital islamabad and is the deputy managing director.He also worked in QDA(Quetta development authority).Israr Jamali also worked in the foreign office and was first sectary in UAE in the mid eighties.
