Dame Deirdre Joan Hine, née Curran DBE

FLSW (born 16 September 1937) is a Welsh
medical doctor. In 1984 she began her career as a public health physician in Wales. She was named Chair of the Commission for Health Improvement. Since January 2004 she has chaired the
BUPA Foundation.
. She attended Heathfield House (Cardiff) and Charlton Park (Cheltenham) schools before earning her MBBCh degree at the Welsh National School of Medicine (now Cardiff University School of Medicine
) in 1961. In 1963 she married Raymond Hine; the couple has two sons. She was a medical practitioner at Cardiff
's Royal Infirmary. She trained in public health
medicine, becoming a specialist in community medicine in 1974.
