Solomons studied documentary photography in Newport between 1993 and 1996. During this period he changed from primarily photographing in black and white into the colour work he is mostly known for. His first major piece of work was completed during his studies in Newport but not published for fifteen years: Underground, which explores the London Underground
using artificial light and in colour.
Solomons is a member of the In-Public street photography collective, having joined in 2008.
