, and together they had seven children - Charles (1854–1914), Robert (1856–1883), Gilbert (1858-), David (1865–1914), William Henry (1861–1948), Catherine (1862–1924), and Margaret Ann (1867–1932). David Hartin died 23 November 1893 and was buried in the Carp Road Presbyterian Cemetery, Huntley Township

In 1870 David Hartin purchased the former Malcomson Tavern in Bells Corners from then owner William Corbett. Unfortunately, in August of that year it was destroyed by fire. He subsequently rebuilt a larger stone structure on the site and named it Hartin's Hotel. It still stands today as the home of Al's Steakhouse. It is one of the oldest buildings in Bells Corners. 45°19′30"N 75°49′36"W

According to the 1881 census David and his son Charles also farmed 50 acres of land in the area.
