David Craig was a great footballer who played as a defender for Newcastle and Northern Ireland. He started playing professionally for Newcastle in 1962.

EARLY DAYS

David was born on the 8th June 1944 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to an English mother and Irish father. Although his family didn't have a lot of money, he did enjoy a happy childhood and a loving family. His father worked at Harland & Wolff, the shipyard where the Titanic was built. David's mother was a housewife like many other Irish mums. Although he was born in Belfast, his family soon moved to the nearby town of Comber where David went to school at Comber Primary when he was five. David always played football when he had the chance. He played on the streets with his friends, played at his technical college, and also played a lot of football for the Boys Brigade. Before he went into football he worked for a short time as an apprentice engineer, following in his father's footsteps, which was a job that most people did in the area at that time.

He joined Newcastle United
