 investigate the murder of a respected former school chancellor whose body is found in the Hudson River

, with his death likely to be connected to a series of substantial gambling losses. At first, Goren and Eames suspect a talented but arrogant young gambler who was owed a significant amount of money by the victim. The detectives also investigate the dead man's resentful brother-in-law, when they discover that he not only raised the gambler, but taught him how to play poker and intentionally placed him on the casino cruise ship on the fateful night.
