On 6 January 2011, Gazey announced he would be leaving Coronation Street as he missed theatre life and he would like to try new characters and new experiences. He said his decision to leave was extremely tough and he will miss the cast and crew very much. Gazey filmed his final scenes in May 2011 but Graeme remained on-screen until June.
