It was built after the Ashby Road
ground was destroyed in the Second World War, leaving Hinckley without a venue for first-class cricket. Local businessmen rallied and Arthur Tansey donated three adjoining fields and a cricket pitch and pavilion were built. It was thought of as up to scratch and Leicestershire
used it as an outground between 1951 and 1964. 19 games were held in total. The first game against Middlesex
and the last against Kent
