It was established in 1995 as Ontario's third college specifically serving the Franco-Ontarian
population, after La Cité collégiale
in Ottawa
and Collège Boréal
in Sudbury.
It began as a "virtual college", i.e., it had no physical campus, and offered instruction only by distance. In 1999, a campus was opened on College Street in Toronto. In 2001, however, the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party government of Mike Harris
decided to close the college.
The college ceased operations in 2002. Its programs and services were taken over by Collège Boréal, which offers classes on the Carlaw Avenue campus of Centennial College in Toronto.
