A variety of academic programs and coursework are offered, including special education, standard high school classes at three levels, and Advanced Placement classes. The school's mascot is The Blue Devil. The school colors are blue and white. The student newspaper is The Devil's Advocate, which is published on a biweekly basis as part of The Town Times, the local newspaper of Durham and Middlefield.

Sports

Coginchaug offers a range of sports and extracurricular activities. The Coginchaug softball team has won eight CIAC state class "s" championship titles in the last ten years, including the 2008 title. The 2006-2007 basketball season ended in winning a Shoreline Championship title. The girls' basketball team won the Shoreline Championship title for the 2010-2011 season.

In 2001, the boys cross country team won the CIAC state class "s" championship title, its only state championship for cross country to date.
The softball team won the Shoreline Championship title in 2004 and 2005, and the girls team won the Shoreline title in 2005.

The boys track team won indoor and outdoor Shoreline titles in 2007. Track boys won state titles in 2003, 2000, and 1997. Girls won state tiles in 1999 through 2002.
The football team is a co-op with Vinal Techs. Coginchaug went 9-2 in 2009, sharing the Pequot league title with Cromwell, and making the state playoffs, losing to East Lyme in the first round.

Girls tennis also had a good 2010/2011 season going 1 win short of a 500 record.
