Clinton Walker

Clinton Walker is an Australian writer, best known for his works on popular music but with a broader interest in social and cultural history and theory.
Born in Bendigo, Victoria, Walker dropped out of art school in Brisbane in the late 70s to start a punk fanzine and write for student newspapers. He published his first book, Inner City Sound, in 1981, an expanded new edition of which was published in the US in 2005. Walker worked as a freelance journalist up until the 1990s, for newspapers and magazines, with a longstanding association with both RAM and Australian Rolling Stone.
His third book, Highway to Hell: The Life and Times of AC/DC Legend Bon Scott (1994) was widely acclaimed and a best seller in Australia. Walker is also the author of Stranded: The Secret History of Australian Independent Music 1977-1991
(1996) and "Football Life" 1998, a personal history of grass roots Australian Rules culture. HIs sixth book, Buried Country
, a history of Aboriginal country music
became a documentary film and soundtrack CD.
He has also worked at ABC Television
on the documentary series, Long Way to the Top and Love is in the Air, as well as co-hosting the live music program Studio 22.
In 2005, his seventh book, Golden Miles: Sex, Speed and the Australian Muscle Car, was published by Lothian; an updated edition was published by Wakefield Press in 2009.
