Arts

The ClaytonArts Academy, a smaller learning community within the school, boasts an excellent track record of academics and the arts. The Academy, the band and choir programs, and the drama and art departments are working with the local fundraising group Clayton Theatre Quest to raise money to build a visual and performing arts center on the Clayton Valley High School campus. www.claytontheatrequest.org.

The Instrumental and Choral music department boasts successful performances, including awards for choir and band at the Heritage Festival in Seattle, for orchestra at the Fiesta-Val in Williamsburg, and for choir at the Heritage Festival in Boston. The Marching Band was the 1998 Western States Marching Band Circuit Champion in class A-90. The marching band has continued to earn regional recognition with wins at the Lincoln Review of Champions, Vintage Reserve Field Show, and the Lodi Grape Bowl Classic. Classes include Women's Ensemble, Concert Choir, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic and Concert Bands, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, and Marching Band.

The Talon, produced by the journalism class, only published two issues in 2010: One at the last day of the first semester, and one eight days before the end of the school year. CVHS Ugly Eagles Football

2008 the Varsity Ugly Eagles were 12-1. Made there way to Santa Rose to play against Cardinal Newman. They played a great game but lost 7-17.

2009 The Varsity Ugly Eagles were 8-4. They fought back with a vengeance to beat Concord High school 48-28 during first round of playoffs. They then went to lose the second round of playoffs in Santa Rosa Montgomery high school. It was a nail biting game. The game ended with the Uglies losing 11-21.

The Class of 1972 - Started the Ugly Eagles as a means of setting those on the football team apart from the rest of the school. This whole concept was started by our Freshman/JV football coaches Glen Schrimger & Bill Nelson who challeneged us all to keep our hair neatly trimmed above the eyes, above the ears and above our collars. Keep in mind this was @ 1969 - 1970 in the middle of the "Summer of Love" and the hippie movement. To be different back then wasn't out of the ordinary but the lengths (or lack of) we took it certain bucked the trend of the times!
