. He won Super Bowl rings with Dallas in 1992 and 1993, although he missed the entire latter season after suffering a knee injury. Myriad off-the-field problems and more injuries led to his departure from Dallas, and while he signed with the Miami Dolphins in 1996 (his former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson had taken over the coaching position in Miami), he was suspended for a year for violating the NFL's drug policies and was later waived by Johnson without ever playing a down for the Dolphins. Holmes later filed suit against the NFL for involuntarily enrolling him in a drug treatment program after he tested positive for marijuana, but his claim was dismissed. Holmes' post-NFL life has been a turbulent mix of personal problems and financial difficulties.

In 2010, Holmes moved to Wenatchee, WA. He is working as a personal trainer and motivational speaker.
