Sir Claude Francis Liardet KBE CB DSO DL (1881 – 1966) was a British Army
artillery officer during World War I
. During World War II
, he commanded the 1st London Division which was re-designated the 56th (London) Infantry Division in 1940.
In 1942, Liardet transferred to Air Ministry
duties, taking up the post of Inspector-General of Aerodrome Defences. The following year Liardet was appointed the first Commandant-General of the RAF Regiment
and continued working for the Air Ministry as the Director-General of Ground Defences.
He was knighted by King George VI in 1944.
