A clarence or growler is a type of carriage
popular in the 19th century, essentially an expanded version of the Brougham
. It is a closed, four-wheeled horse-driven vehicle with a glass front and seats for four passengers inside. The driver sat at the front, outside the carriage. It was named after Prince William, Duke of Clarence and St Andrews
