History

The depot was built when rail travel first took off in Perth (late 1890s, early 1900s) and has housed steam, diesel, electric trams(maintenance), and currently electric multiple units of both the A and B series railcars. It has also been a marshaling yard for various freight consists.

The depot's primary purpose is to service, refurbish and upgrade Transperth's A-Series railcars. The newer B-series railcars may also be stabled at Claisebrook Depot for work that cannont be done at Mandurah or Nowergup at anytime and for events such as the Australian Football League

 games on weekends at Subiaco Oval. The depot has also recently started serving as the facility to maintain and refurbish the diesel-electric Transwa Australind
