History

Since its US founding in 1932, Cision, formerly Bacon's Information, has grown along with the communications industries it serves, evolving from its simple start to its present-day status as one of the world’s most extensive media intelligence and information services companies.

As Bacon's, the company was acquired in 2001 by Observer - the largest, publicly traded media intelligence firm in the world. In April, 2007, Bacon's and all Observer Group companies became Cision.

CisionPoint
Cision US offers enterprise, small business and professional editions of its integrated software platform to help organizations meet their media and communications management needs.

CisionPoint is a web-based “software as a service” solutions that allows professionals to build media lists, distribute press releases, manage PR campaigns, monitor news coverage and analyze results. CisionPoint is built on the Bacon's Media Database, “the media intelligence gold standard”. CisionPoint utilizes a customizable communication dashboard that offers integrated access to the Bacon’s Media Database and CisionPoint’s monitoring and productivity tools.
There are three editions of the CisionPoint platform – CisionPoint Enterprise, CisionPoint Professional, and CisionPoint Small Business. They make Cision’s integrated on-demand media research, distribution, monitoring, and analysis tools available to a wide base of marketing and public relations professionals.

1994 – MediaSource CD introduced

1995 – Bacon’s acquired by Primedia

2000 – MediaSource launched as first online media research and distribution service; Internet monitoring service launched; Bacon’s collects web clippings from more than 7,000 news web sites; PR MediaNews (a web-based, daily online newsletter focused exclusively on the media with information on editor changes, magazine profiles and trend reporting) launched; and TV closed-captioning monitoring service begun

2001 – Bacon’s acquired by Observer AB, based in Stockholm, Sweden, the global leader in the media intelligence industry

2002 – Media Pulse broadcast monitoring services acquired by Bacon’s to provide a single source for global print, broadcast and online media monitoring; International media monitoring introduced

2003 – Chicago News, a broadcast monitoring service, acquired by Bacon’s; MediaSource monitoring module launched; and media evaluation

2004 – MediaMap acquired by Bacon’s to boost research data by adding industry-specific media information

2005 – Delahaye, a media evaluation and consulting services firm, and Multivision, a broadcast monitoring and analysis firm were acquired by Bacon’s to further develop and expand its broadcast media monitoring and media evaluation services

2007 – Bacon’s is rebranded as Cision, and serves as the company's headquarters in North America. Cision US is headquartered in Chicago with 24 offices nationwide and over 790 employees.

2009 - CisionPoint wins the 2009 CODiE Award as Best Online News Service

2010 - The Cision Social Media Dashboard wins the 2010 CODiE Award as Best Social Media Aggregation Service

2011 - CisionPoint wins the 2011 CODiE Award as Best Marketing/Public Relations Solution

Since its founding in 1955, Cision Canada, formerly Bowdens Media Monitoring, has grown along with the communications industries it serves, evolving from its simple start to its present-day status as one of the world’s most extensive media intelligence and information services companies.

As Bowdens, the company was acquired in 2001 by Observer – the largest, publicly traded media intelligence firm in the world. In 2004, Bowdens acquired Verbatim and NewsWatch. In April 2007, Bowdens and all Observer Group companies became Cision. Cision operates globally, and has a presence in more than a dozen countries worldwide.

CisionPoint and MediaSource are web-based “software as a service” solutions that allow professionals to build media lists, distribute press releases, manage PR campaigns, monitor news coverage and analyze results. CisionPoint Plan and Connect are built on the CisionPoint Media Database, “the media intelligence gold standard.” CisionPoint utilizes a customizable communication dashboard that offers integrated access to the CisionPoint Media Database and press release distribution tools. MediaSource offers clients an online portal to monitor news coverage and evaluate the results of that coverage.
