Cinema City presents one of the most interesting events in domain of film and culture in the region. Festival is based on a concept of festival city, which was promoted at Serbia Film Festival in 2007, a festival which laid a foundation for Cinema City. With significant changes in the programme concept, organizing of the festival was placed under the jurisdiction of Citizens’ Association "Cinema City". During 2008 and 2009, this festival became international film festival which, through its volume, film programme and reputable guests from country and abroad, presents an important cultural and film event for Serbia and the region. Programme concept of the festival anticipates film, music, academic and Media art elements that take place simultaneously at more than 20 locations in Novi Sad.

Programme

Film programme presents 14 selections of domestic and foreign production, with three competitive selections and numerous retrospectives. Over 150 films, with more than 100 premieres are showing at 5 indoor and 4 outdoor locations, with festival giving 20 awards for domestic, international and low budget film.

Media art is a singular exhibit and convention with more than 50 artists from around the world participating. Exhibit is situated at the central square in Novi Sad. The programme includes lectures and performances which depict a certain theme and current artistic tendencies.

Music programme takes place in the specific ambience of Petrovaradin fortress, where extraordinary parties are being held at the opening and closing of the festival. Quality musical warm up prepares the visitors in the best possible way for upcoming events of the festival and promises original entertainment for the duration of the festival, while parties at the closing of the festival summarize all the favorable impressions from previous days through energy of the audience and unforgettable musical performances.

Academic programme of the festival is realised through originally designed educational workshops where film artists, theorists, critics and representatives of film institutions contemplate on some of the most significant topics in film art and film industry.

, being awarded in 14 categories (the best movie - Grand prix of the festival, the best directing, script, cinematography, original music, leading male role, leading female role, supporting male role, supporting female role, editing, sound, scene design, costume design and the best make- up). Beside those, Ibis for life- achievement and the Audience award is also announced.

History

With first edition held in Novi Sad

 July 3- 8th 2007, 6-days long festival presented new concept in organisation of film festivals in Serbia. Center of the city is converted into festival area, with programs on 10 locations.

The 2009 edition took place from June 6/14th. It was the second year of the festival under new branding, as the first issue, in 2007, was called "Filmski Festival Srbije" (Film Festival of Serbia). Nine days of festival events in 2009 were attended by more than 70 000 visitors.

Besides money, award includes a stainless steel award-statuete called Ibis, made by Serbian sculptor Nikola Pešić
