Christopher Cortez

Christopher Cortez is a multi-disciplinary designer, whose innate curiosity and intuition has compelled him to explore new ways of thinking and has served to define his work philosophy and approach. The foundation of Chris’s work is rooted in non-verbal communication and blends the languages of fashion, graphic design, architecture, music and photography.

In addition to Christopher’s current responsibilities as a men’s footwear designer at Tommy Hilfiger, USA, he is also involved in Cortez Groupe, the graphic design firm founded in 2006. Cortez Groupe is an entrepreneurial network of innovators and thought leaders with expertise in a variety of creative disciplines. His best experiences emerged from collaborations with interior projects at Brioni and Mason Fisk (Williamsburg condo development). His firm also just redesigned Magave Tequila, an award winning tequila from California.

to discover “The Next Great American Designer”. After being awarded the title, Christopher was hired as head menswear designer to create a new label. During his four seasons with the company, Chris gained swift notoriety amongst fashion aficionados. He has been featured in many publications such as Women’s Wear Daily, New York Times and Entertainent Weekly.

Christopher holds a MFA in graphic design with honors and a focus on fashion from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and a BFA with honors in design from Chamberlayne School of Design. Chris’s studies and passion led him on a path to create high-end headwear, which resulted in the co-founding of Christopher Thomas & Company. His headwear made their way into 25 stores worldwide, as well as atop the heads of many celebrities, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Gwen Stefani, Mark McGrath and Pharell Williams. Chris departed from the company in 2005 to pursue his passion in multi-disciplinary design.
