Geography

Chintamani is located at 13.4°N 78.07°E. It has an average elevation of 865 metres (2837 ft).
It is a major taluk headquarters and part of Chikkaballapura district. It became a part of Chikkaballapura district in 2007 when Kolar district was split. Well Known as a "Business Town"
The name Chintamani is supposed to have been given by an ancient Maratha warrior who had camped in the region. The town may have been named after a local king "Chintamani Rao".
The economy is agriculture based.
Chintamani is famous for its succulent Tomatoes, Groundnuts, Mangoes, and Bananas.

Chintamani is also famous for snacks such as chakli, nippat, groundnuts and others. Chintamani plays its role even in the production of buller daal, rice mills and in the manufacture and export of Agarbatti.
A jewellery market has also been thriving in this town for many decades now.
The Chintamani Tomato Market is one of the biggest in Karnataka. It is also famous for its booming silk industry and dairy milk farms.

The people here speak primarily Kannada.

Horsly Hills is a few hours drive from Chintamani.
There is a cave temple located on the hill named Kailasa Giri which was developed by the ex-Home Minister, Chowda Reddy.
Another tourist attraction of Chintamani is a place called Kaiwara, which is located about 11 kilometres away. Kaiwara is famous for its temples and a large, nationally recognized zoo. It is believed that this was the place, called Ekachakradhipura, where the Pandavas spent a year during their Agnyaathavaasa.

Just 10 kilometres from Chintamani is a small place named Muragha Malla. It is the resting place for 2 saints - husband and wife - named by believers as Ammajan and Bawajan. Most Muslims and a few Hindus visit this place. Visitors believe that the place has powers to cure any disease, impart the blessings of the divine, or exorcise any kind of haunting. It is at the base of the picturesque hill.

Just 35 kilometers from Chintamani is Thirumalapura(Near Salamakalahalli), a village with a famous Narasimha Swamy Temple, this temple was developed by Ex-Social welfare minister K.M.Krishna Reddy. The yearly festival of this temple is a hit among st the locals and people from all over karnataka visit this temple on this divine occasion. Who's who of Karnataka politics and literature grace this occasion.

Just 10 kilometres from Chinthamani there is a place called Raguttahalli ( Singarepalli) well known for Sri Kadhiri Lakshminarashimhaswami temple. This is one of the oldest and most popular temples in this area and holistic place. The idol of Narasimhaswami was brought from Kadiri(AP) that's the reason this place is called Kadiri Kshethra.

Chintamani is famous for education as it has many good schools and colleges like "The Government Polytechnic" which is one of the reputed polytechnics in the state.
Kishora Vidya Bhavana is one of the top schools in the entire district which is well known for its excellence in Education and raising Schools are ROYAL Groups and New Public School. Royal headed with a strong administration is making its way to leading institution.Also Venkatadri PU college is one of the most reputed colleges which produces Top ranks with 100% results every year.There is one more college named Pragathi Independent which has the strength of around 2000 students.

, Chintamani had a population of 65,456. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Chintamani has an average literacy rate of 67%, significantly higher than the national average of 64.8%; with male literacy of 73% and female literacy of 60%. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. It is about 35 miles (56.3 km) from the Bengaluru International Airport. Chintamani is famous for its silk production from Venkatagirikota and ground-nuts from Chowdareddypalya.

Politics

MC Sudhakar(Congress) Son of Ex-Home Minister Chowda Reddy, is the current MLA (13th Karnataka assembly). The Other Influential leader is Ex-Social Welfare Minister Krishna Reddy. Both Krishna Reddy and Chowda Reddy hail from a Politically well influenced Families. Their competence has been for three generations and still going strong. Presently, Kurla Reddy, another prominent leader from the K.M.Krishna Reddy clan is all set to take over from Krishna Reddy.

Both Families are known for their clean politics and they play a major role in Kolar and Chikkaballapur district politics.

Tourism

The largest temple in the town is Varadanjeneya Temple. This temple is situated on the hill and as one cannot reach the top in a vehicle we have to trek the hill through the stony steps. Thus, it is a place which is peaceful and has immense scenic beauty as it is situated on the hill.

The Murugmulla Dargah of Fakhi Shah Wali about 8 km from Chintamani, draws tens of thousands of pilgrims from all over the country.

Kaiwara: This town is associated with the epic, Mahabharatha. Known as Ekchakrapura, this is where the pandavas lived in exile, incognito, Bhima, one of the pandava brothers is said to have killed the Demon Asura Bakasura, who was tormenting the people, legend has it that a nearby cave in the hill, contains the corpse of the demon, which supposedly drips blood during Shivaratri. There is a garden complex in kaivara, containing gardens and musical fountains. Also in the gardens are five cottages named after the pandavas and a mini Zoo with herbarium. The temples of Amaranarayana and Bhimeswara as well as the Yogi Narayana ashram are worth a visit.and gangamma tempel in gajanana circel.
