History

Though initially Shankar was the only story writer for the books, soon he started inviting stories from other authors. Then in 1978, CBT started an annual Competition for Writers of Children's Books, and even today most of its publishing is sourced through the winning entries. It publishes books mainly for children and young readers, printed at its own 'Indraprastha Press', located in the building’s basement, and sends them out to international book fairs through the National Book Trust and its network of 1500 distributors .
