Street children
A street child is a child who lives on the streets of a city, deprived of family care and protection. Most children on the streets are between the ages of about 5 and 17 years old.Street children live in junk boxes, parks or on the street itself...

throughout the world. It works toward the liberation of the child from the suffering caused by working and living on the street.

• Establish contacts and facilitate networking and linkages among individuals, organizations, and agencies, both non-government and government, concerned with street children in the Philippines and throughout the Asian Region;
• Facilitate advocacy, social mobilization, operational and action research, training, technical assistance, and program development activities at the national and regional levels; and
• Maintain a databank of information on street children and exploited children (research studies, programs and services, resource groups, and individuals).
Childhope Asia Philippines operates in more than 20 locations all over Metro Manila and assists around 2,000 street children who work and live on the streets every year.

History

CHILDHOPE Regional Office for Asia was established in July 1989 after the First Regional Conference of Street Children in Asia held n Manila in May 1989. Participants in the conference recognized CHILDHOPE as the organization that will initiate networking and collaboration among the different agencies working for street children in the Southeast Asian region. In 1991, it started to respond to requests for information and technical assistance from South Asia.

Community Mobilization against Child Prostitution

This project started in September 1994. It was initiated to reduce the incidence of child prostitution in Pasay and, more recently, in Caloocan City

The Tahanan Sta. Luisa Welcome (Drop-in) Shelter

The Center's goal is to rehabilitate, ensure and sustain the integration of young street girls below 18 years, and girls who have been sexually abused or prostituted with their families, if feasible, and to society in general

Junior Health Workers Project

also implements a Junior Health Workers Project, where older street children are trained to administer first-aid, conduct sessions on primary health care, and refer or accompany other street children to public health centers

Technical & financial assistance

Coordinating and facilitating technical and financial assistance to projects working with street children or on preventive initiatives with their families and community.

Human Resource Development

Childhope Asia Philippines (CHAP) promotes human resource development through training and capacity-building activities that it conducts among staff and volunteers of NGOs in the Philippines and in other Asian countries.
