Marshall lived in Wiltshire, England. He was frequently imprisoned, fined, and prosecuted for non-payment of tithes, whoch was required by the general church. However, he worked hard to counteract divisions among various elements of the Quaker faith. As an author, he published The Way of Life Revealed (1674), A Plain and Candid Account of... certain experienced Medicines (c. 1681), a journal, and other works.

Marshall died from tuberculosis
