Charles K. Williams

Charles Kilbourne Williams (January 24, 1782 March 9, 1853) was the 20th Governor of Vermont from 1850 to 1852. He was elected from Rutland.

Major, militia, War of 1812. Major General, state militia. State legislator, 1809–1811, 1814–1815, 1820–1821. Rutland County State's Attorney, 1814–1815. Collector of Customs, 1825–1829. Justice, Vermont Supreme Court, 1823–33. Vermont Chief Justice, 1834–46. Author of precedent setting opinion on unconstitutionality of legislative acts passed to nullify judicial decisions. President, Council of Censors, 1848. State legislator, 1849. Governor, 1850–52.

He married Lucy Langdon of Castleton. Three sons, Charles, Chauncey and Samuel.
