, was designed by John Anderson Lankford, known as the “dean of black architects.” The building name has been spelled Chapelle Administration Building in HABS and NPS reports.
It was declared a National Historic Landmark
in 1976.
According to the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, "The building is topped by a round cupola with clock and chimes. The original cupola was destroyed by lightning in 1974, but has since been restored."
