Cha Whelan was an Irish
sportsperson. He played hurling
with his local club Thomastown and was a member of the Kilkenny
senior inter-county team in the 1960s. With Kilkenny Whelan won All-Ireland
and Leinster
titles. After winning these titles and championships with Killkenny, he went on to become Mayor of Thomastown, his hometown. Whelan has since died.
