VISION of COAI

To facilitate the establishment of a world class cellular infrastructure and deliver the benefits of affordable mobile telephony services to the people of India.

The COAI was constituted in 1995 as a registered, non-governmental society. The Association is dedicated to the advancement of modern communication through the establishment of a world-class cellular infrastructure and to delivering the benefits of affordable mobile communication services to the people of India.

COAI core membership includes private cellular operators, namely - Aircel Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., Etisalat Db Telecom India Pvt. Ltd., Idea Cellular, Loop Mobile (India) Ltd., S-Tel Ltd., Unitech Wireless Pvt. Ltd & Associated companies, Videocon Telecommunications Ltd. and Vodafone Essar operating across the whole country.

Also participating in COAI’s activities to help realize the common goals of the Indian cellular industry, are our Associate Members – Ascend Telecom Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., ATC Tower Company of India Pvt. Ltd., Ericsson Communications Ltd., Essar Telecom Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., GTL Infrastructure Ltd., India Telecom Infra Ltd., Indus Tower Ltd., Nokia Siemens Networks, Quippo Telecom Infrastructure Ltd., Tower Vision India Pvt. Ltd., and Xcel Telecom.

Over the years COAI has emerged as the official voice for the Indian GSM Industry and interacts directly with Ministries, Policy Makers, Regulators, Financial Institutions and Technical Bodies. It provides a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas between these bodies and Service Providers, who share a common interest in the development of cellular mobile telephony. COAI also collaborates with other Industry Associations such as CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, AUSPI, ISPAI, VSAT association etc, with the objective of presenting an industry consensus view to the Government on crucial issues relating to the growth and development of the Indian Cellular Industry.

COAI also interacts with various international organizations such as ITU, GSMA, UMTS, WWRF and 3GPP etc. as well as the Press & Media to ensure that the issues pertaining to the cellular industry are discussed, understood and debated on a wider platform.

While much has been achieved there is more to be accomplished for and by this dynamic sector. The coming years will see more and more emphasis on the penetration in the rural market and deployment of 3G.

COAI truly brings with it commonality of purpose and achievement of common objectives for the growth and protection of this sector.
