Cathal "The Punisher" Pendred is an Irish mixed martial artist and the current Cage Contender Welterwight champion, he holds a 9-2 MMA record. On march 12th 2011 he defeated Liam Shannon for the second time to retain his Welterweight championship. The rematch came after a somewhat controversial first fight between the two in 2010. Cathal won a unanimous decision after three tough rounds in, although having had dominant top position for the majority of the fight his inactivity along with Shannon's work rate from the bottom lead some to question the judges verdict. The rematch began with Cathal catching Shannon with a standing punch that sent him to the canvas, Cathal then proceeded to continue where he left off from the first fight by following Shannon to the ground and working away with strikes from the top position. At the beginning of the third round a visibly tired Shannon succumbed to another takedown and just past the two minute mark the referee stepped in to the stop the fight declaring Cathal the winner.
