Caryn Franklin

Caryn Franklin is a British fashion expert. She was former Fashion Editor and Co-Editor of i-D Magazine in the '80s and has been a fashion commentator for 29 years.

A broadcaster, writer, director and producer, she has worked with many major networks to produce TV shows and documentaries, as well as contributing to newspapers and magazines. This included BBC's The Clothes Show

 which ran for 12-years from 1986-98. She has four books to her name, including a novel.

Caryn has also worked in education throughout her career, as an external assessor and lecturer for a variety of colleges, including The Royal College of Art, Central St Martins and the London College of Fashion. She recently collected an Honorary Doctorate from The Arts University College at Bournemouth.

As a fashion activist, she has co-chaired Fashion Targets Breast Cancer for 15 years, which has helped build and maintain Britain's first ever Breast Cancer Research Centre.

She proposed the Centre of Sustainability at London College of Fashion and, as one of its ambassadors, promotes ethical sourcing and supply.

She also co-founded the award winning All Walks Beyond the Catwalk (with Debra Bourne and Erin O'Connor) a ground breaking initiative promoting diverse beauty ideals. All Walks is collaborating with colleges nationwide to add the concept of emotionally considerate design and diversity to the curriculum.

Also proposing the All Walks Centre of Diversity at Edinburgh Colleage of Art, which was launched at Graduate Fashion Week in June 2011, attended by Govt. Minister Lynne Featherstone.

Caryn is a member of the Lib Dem Body Confidence steering committee, meeting regularly with members of parliament, educationalists and mental health experts.

She regularly hosts Graduate Fashion Week and Clothes Show Live and through her company Brilliant Productions Ltd, run with renowned Fashion Producer Jane Galpin, has consulted for many high street brands including Debenhams, Evans, M&S. Lloyds TSB, Bhs, Simply Be and the Royal Mint.

Her website howtolookgood.com has been running for over 10 years and through her live events brand collaborates with clients such as the National Wedding Show.

Caryn has two daughters, Mateda and Roseby.
