Capurganá is a township in the municipality of Acandí
in Chocó, Colombia
. Located on the Gulf of Uraba
it is a crossing point to enter Panama
, and has an immigration office of the Departamento Administrativo de Seguridad
of Colombia (DAS). The region is coveted south american tourist destination, and is home to luxury hotels and the leading hotels in Eco-tourism in Colombia.
Capurganá has about 1500 inhabitants, with ancestry in cultures such as the Kuna, Cordoba, Antioquia and Choco. Capurganá means "Tierra del Aji" or "Land of Spice" in the Kuna language. Capurganá principal economic activity is tourism, as well a minority engaged in fishing, agriculture and trade, with nearby Panama
family, and construction being carried out by Sociedad GARMAN. One of the townships most notable residents are the decedents of Mora family, whom built the hotel and the surrounding structures in the 80's and launched Capurganá to where it stands today.
