The Cappelle-la-Grande Open is a chess
tournament held every year in Cappelle-la-Grande
, France, since 1985.
It has become over the years one of the strongest opens in the world, after the Aeroflot Open
of Moscow. The 26th edition of 2010 had 652 participants, with 82 Grandmasters and 61 International Masters
from 57 countries.
The tournament is usually played in the second half of February with an accelerated Swiss-system format in nine rounds. It is organized by the chess club L'Echiquier Cappellois and is played in the Palais des Arts of Cappelle-la-Grande.
