The community of Cape Meares is named after the natural feature Cape Meares
, which in turn was named after John Meares

, the CDP has a total area of 3.1 square miles (8 km²), of which, 2.8 square miles (7.3 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square mile (0.776996433 km²) of it (8.39%) is water. The area is located 246 feet (75 m) above sea-level.

There were 63 households out of which 9.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.0% were married couples
living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 46.0% were non-families. 39.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.75 and the average family size was 2.26.
