Canara College was started in 1973 by the C.H.S. Association, which has been efficiently managing a number of educational institutions since 1891. The college provides three years degree courses in Arts, Science, Commerce and Computers to men and women students without distinction of caste or creed. The quality of education can be judged from the fact that over a period of about 27 year, they were successfully able to bag 86 ranks in the University Examination including 10 first ranks. This was a great feeling of satisfaction for the college to see their students walking out of the portals of this edifice of learning for past 27 years, growing into responsible citizens.
Encouragement to extracurricular activities has been the mark of this college. Various associations are under different faculties give ample opportunities to students to develop their all-round personality. To name some of them, Arts Association, Commerce Association, Science Association, Literary Association, Fine Arts Association, The amateur Speaker's Club, Games and Sports Association, Ladies Association etc.
Under the activities of National Service Scheme
, the students of the college have set a tradition of moving out of the campus and work for the society. Blood donation is an exemplary tradition of this college, for the past two and half decades. Every year more than two hundred students enroll themselves as blood donors.

The Parents-Teachers Association as well as the Alumni Association of our college have been taking active interest in building our Library, equipping the institution with furniture and teaching aids and encouraging the participation of teachers in faculty improvement programme.

The college offers a number of scholar ship to students by the management and a number of students of the school gets scholarships from the government. The management with the Parents teachers association reveal their humanitarian concern through the mid-day meal scheme benefiting about 70 students. The college has excellent facilities. The college has a good library with a collection of 12000 books. The reading room provides 37 periodicals and 7 dailies.
Academic excellence is given top priority. But co-curricular activities do not fall short of it. Students are encouraged to participate in sports, games and other activities related to fine arts and so on. The students used to participate in various meets, tournaments at national and state level. A number of students have won prizes which has brought fame to the college.
Objective
It is the college's endeavour to impart sound and liberal education and develop in the students, good character, manner, habits, to inculcate in them a high sense of duty and discipline, and above all to prepare young men and women with a sense of patriotism and modern outlook. Shraddha (faith), Jijnasa (love of knowledge), Shakthi (strength), Samyama (self-control) and Seva Nishte (service) - those are the Pancha Sheela for the college students to cultivate.Encouragement to extracurricular activities has been the mark of this college. - Cancup: Inter-Collegiate Volleyball Tournament at the University Level in which 25 teams from 20 colleges participate.
