 that represents the interests of over 250,000 artists, cultural workers and supporters from all disciplines of the nation’s vast arts, culture and heritage community. It was founded in 1945 by a coalition of artists and cultural institutions to be an advocate for artists in all disciplines. It was first known as Conference of Canadian Artists and then the Canadian Arts Council. Its present name was adopted in 1958.
