Ex-Senator Trunzo was chairman of the Islip Town Committee, and is a former president of the Brentwood Republican Club. He is a member of the Brentwood Lions Club; Sons of Italy; St. Anne's Holy Name Society; a charter member of St. Anne's Council Knights of Columbus
and an honorary member of the Board of Directors of the Brentwood Youth Activities. He is a former member of the National Association of Accountants; St. Anne's Parish Council, and he is a former treasurer of the Brentwood Youth Activities and of the Brentwood Little League.

As an Islip town councilman, he oversaw the performance of the Islip Town Recreation Department; Assessor's Office; Receiver of Taxes Office; Brentwood Water District, and the Data Process Department.
He is married and resides in Brentwood, New York
with his wife, Lorraine. They have two children, Laura and Michael.
On November 4, 2008, Trunzo was defeated by Brian X. Foley
in New York's third district by a large margin, ending his 36-year Senate tenure. He remained town party chairman until March 2009.
