Origins of the name

The origins of the name 'Burnt Yates' is not 100% known, but certain suggestions have been made such as 'Some people say that Burnt Yates is called Burnt Yates because down at the bottom of the hill they used to burn gates' and the name just evolved from Burnt Gates.
