History
The castle was built around 1200 and was owned afterwards by the counts of Veldenz and by the dukes of Palatinate-ZweibrückenPalatinate-Zweibrücken

. The castle was never conquered or destroyed by assaults. It was severely damaged by a large fire on 26 October 1799. Since 1895 the castle is landmarked.
