History

Buranda railway station opened at the same time when the Cleveland railway line opened in 1888. The station was in an area called Logan Road, and the local area took on the railway station's name after the Pugh's Almanac began using it. The name is derived from two Yuggera/Kabi/Bundjalung words: "buran" meaning wind, and "da" meaning place.

In the early hours of 29 March 2009, the main station building on platform one was destroyed by fire. A 17-year-old man was later charged with one count of arson following the incident.
