History

The ice cream shop was opened by owner Mark Thompson in 2001, shortly after 9/11. Thompson learned the craft of making ice cream at Martoni's, a family-run operation in Pennsylvania

It sits in a landmark fireboat house on a ferry landing that is the oldest one in the city, at the Brooklyn end of the Brooklyn Bridge, with an impressive view of the skyline of Manhattan. In the past, firefighters in the marine fireboat station on the ferry landing had used the little wooden shack for fireboat target practice.
